Lene Carlson
Lene Carlson is an experienced international judge specializing in the evaluation of working dogs in FCI IGP disciplines. Since 1989 she has been a member of the Danish German Shepherd Club, the Danish Kennel Club, and since 2006 also the SV – German Shepherd Club of Germany. She currently serves on the Working Dog Committee of the Danish Kennel Club and acts as its delegate to the FCI Working Dog Committee. She is actively involved in organizing the annual Danish Championships for FCI IGP3 and FCI IGP FH.
She began her journey with show dogs, but about twenty years ago she switched completely to working dogs. Since then she has competed several times at the national level in FCI IGP3 and FCI IGP FH with both German Shepherds and dogs of other breeds. She obtained her judging license in 2006 and has now been judging for twenty years. She dedicates most weekends of the year to judging, averaging 25–30 judging days annually across local trials, qualifications, and national championships. Her international judging experience is extensive: she has officiated in Mexico, Russia, Belgium, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Italy, Slovenia, South Africa, Canada, and Peru. In Denmark she has educated many new judges and regularly conducts seminars on judging principles and the interpretation of the trial program.
In her judging, Lene particularly values harmony and genuine partnership between handler and dog. She pays special attention to dogs that work with an open mind, high spirit, self-confidence, and excellent cooperation with their handler. What she enjoys most is watching dogs perform their tasks with joy and belief in their own abilities. Her last championship-level judging assignment was in 2013 in the obedience discipline. She is very much looking forward to judging at the FCI World Championship for IGP3 in Tychy under the new rulebook, which offers a more modern perspective on the work of dogs and handlers. She expresses deep gratitude to the FCI Commission for the invitation to judge this prestigious event and to Poland for hosting the championships in beautiful Tychy. She wishes all competitors the best of luck and looks forward to wonderful days spent together with enthusiasts of this sport.
